With weight relieved and lots of aerodynamic technology, he has already claimed a new record at the Nürburgring
Lamborghini unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show all the details of its newest model, the Hurricane Performante. Despite having originated in the car that now occupies the entry point in the line of Sant’Agata Bolognese, the Perfomante has dynamic credentials that put it a level above any other Lambo made to date – with the right to break a record at the Nürburgring.
The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine is conceptually the same as the rest of the line, but with modifications to the manifolds and exhaust system and new titanium valves. It now delivers 640 hp and maximum torque of 61.2 mkgf, or 31 hp and 4 mkgf more over the LP610-4.
According to Lambo, the Perfomante accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.9 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.9 seconds (0.3 s and 1 s faster, respectively). The maximum speed is the same: 325 km/h.
The power and torque numbers, however, are the least important among the innovations of the Performante. Starting with the weight, reduced by 40 kilos (now 1,382 kg, very little for a supersport) thanks to the use of a new type of carbon fiber compound patented by the brand.
This material was used in all new aerodynamic appendices, including front and rear spoilers, hood, rear diffuser, air intakes and flaps. Some of these components are active (mobile), forming the so-called Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva.
Such an aerodynamic system commands the new air intakes in the bumper and the flaps that may interfere with the airflow to the rear airfoil, prioritizing drag reduction or downforce enhancement.
According to Lamborghini, thanks to this the rear wing improves cornering stability and can increase braking capacity by astonishing 750%.
In addition, the suspension is 10% stiffer, the shock absorbers can be of the Magnetic Ride type, the electric steering has been recalibrated and both the all-wheel drive and the stability control have been recalibrated in order to improve stability in all situations.
The style pays homage to the Diablo’s 30 years with a special orange paint. The cabin features a special finish in details such as air-conditioning outlets, gearshift knobs, door handles and center console. The Alcantara cladding is in the shell-type seats, and the vehicle can be fully customized through the Ad Personam program.
The Hurricane Performante had already been anticipated last week, entitled to a controversy involving breaking the record for production cars at the Nürburgring. The new Lambo would have spiked the time of 6min52s01, more than five seconds below the mark of the Porsche 918 Spyder.
On the internet, however, there are already some analyzes and theories that cast doubt on the validity of the record – Huracán would have relieved weight, different internal structures and slick tires with only cosmetic grooves made exclusively for the attempt.
Either way, this is probably the most exciting Lamborghini ever made to shiver in circuits and track days. The first deliveries will be made later this year. The suggested price is US $ 274,390 in the United States and 195,040 euros in the European market.
